Words with Friends - Making up your own rules

Just when I started to get bored with the game Becky came up with a brilliant suggestion about playing your own rules.

So for the first game we went with an easy you must only play a four letter word. It's difficult than I first thought & I had to skip a few turns because I had nothing to play. Becky forget a few times & played a different length word for which  she got penalised & I forced her to miss a turn :)

I won the game & the next game is three characters or less?!

iOS turn based gaming

There are so many iOS turn based games you can play against friends & randoms. You are spoiled for choice from board games & word games to quiz & drawing.

Thus I have decided to say farewall to a few that I have been playing over the last couple of years.

Firstly Wordfeud, it was always the poor cousin to Words with Friends & just never get the recognition it deserved. Letting you play in various languages & also giving you the option of a random board layout.

Next we have a few Zynga with Friends games that people have just stopped playing Hanging with Friends & Scrabble with Friends. Hanging with Friends took the hangman game and gave it a Zynga paintbrush & Scrabble is basically the Boggle board game with a grid of letters you have to make words to get points.

Lastly I say goodbye to Jenga which is a shame but the notification system on it is just broken & the developers no longer seem interested in fixing the issue.

So what am I currently playing?

Carcassonne, Words with Friends, Hero Academy & Disc Drivin will always be on all my iOS devices because they are all excellent examples of turn based gaming.

Others that I am still playing are Draw Something (iPad only), Song Pop (Although I am quickly getting bored of this), Trivie (again annoying because it is tailored to the US market on the question bank) & Friendle (Backgammon only with random players because no-one seems to be playing this anymore).

I have a few others that I am testing with Abbas & trying to figure out how to play them like Bang, Ticket To Ride & Outwitters. Before I decide on keeping or deleting them.

Words with Friends - Winning Streak

I would like to say I am that good at Words with Friends but that would be lying, I won the first game (last in the screenshot) by only 4 points & the next by only 13 points.

I done well on the third game by beating Becky 466 points to 280 & the next game was a similar margin of 445 vs 233.

The recent game completed I won 384 to 285, it's Becky's turn to start the next game & my winning streak has got to end at some point?

iOS Gaming - Too many turns

Notification numbers are a great idea from Apple to let you know you have a pending action on a particular app but when my On-line Games folder recently got to 50 !!

Something had to be done, I was playing far too many iOS turn based games inc Disc Drivin, Carcacassonne, Poker Pals, Words with Friends, Friendle & many many more.

I'm blaming that many games for my recent loss in Words with Friends against Vicky (her first win against me)

So apologies to anyone who I have resigned or refused games against in any of the games.

To Vicky well done on your first & only win against me :)

Words with Friends - Changes

Version 4.10.1 updated the app to include a store

• Tile Pile shows you how many of each letter is left!
• Word-O-Meter tells you how strong your word is relative to all words your rack can create! 

Yes you read that correct after newtoy were bought out by Zynga it was only a matter of time that the app would get monetized & it took them a while but you can now buy credits to cheat in the game.

What a shame !! What a way to ruin a great game.
I hope the app gets updated so the opposing player knows that you used one of these skills against them.

Anyhow I will still keep the app because there are a few regular players I play who I trust to not buy into Zynga's money cow & cheat in the game.

But I must also welcome back Wordfued which has a nice shuffle board feature to vary the tiles on the board or you can play a standard board.

2 recent games played in Wordfeud & Words with Friends both finished on the last tile placements. I lost by 1 point to thermalsatsuma but managed to beat pupilar by 2 points.

It only seems fair that on a day I am gloating about getting a new highest scoring word that I should also post about my worst defeat ever. Losing 537 to 275 against thermalsatsuma

I just had the most horrid letters :(

Words with Friends - Highest scoring word

My previous highest scoring word Analgias for 125 points played way back in November 2010. It has taken me another 6 months to beat that by only 3 points to get Lynches against DJLD for 128 points.

Sorry DJLD I think I may have lynched you this game :)
