What do I say?
That tweet six years ago, if only we & Owen knew how serious it was he would still be with us. A day later he passed away :(
He was probably the biggest Batman fan I knew & anytime I play or watch Batman, even the latest Gotham series I stop to think I wonder if Owen would have enjoyed that?
Miss you Batman.

I still think about you big guy every time I play a Batman game or watch a sci-fi movie I think Owen would have enjoyed that.
I know you loved mobile gaming so I'll be playing doodle jump today & trying to beat your high score of 32K.

Blog - Tidy Up
I've been having a bit of a tidy up on my blog & have decided to remove all the movies/tv posts, tried it for a while but I think I prefer to leave this blog to gaming only. Also removed some odd posts about videos & splurge.
I then started reading my posts about Owen & got all sad thinking about him. I'm posting about E3 etc and getting all excited about the new games coming soon, none of that is fucking important, it is all so trivial when I think that Owen is not with us anymore.

Tiny Tower - Rev Owen Arcade
Finally after building 99 floors I finally got the floor I wanted.
This will also be the only floor in the tower where the workers will wear costumes.
I wanted Batman costumes but these are not available in the game so the next best is the cat costume or I like to think Cat Woman.
Still miss you Owen (RIP)
Here's to you big guy enjoy the Arcade :)

Owen Allaway - gone but never forgotten
I received this comment today on my blog and thought I would share it with you all
"And here we are, exactly a year later. We (his family) again want to say a huge thank you to all of you out there. You have not got a clue how amazing you were, and how much you helped us get thro' this. You were awesome. That we loved him goes without saying. That you all recognised his essential goodness and kindness and intelligence and gentleness and wit, and took the time and the trouble to post comments and/or come to the funeral made the unbearable bearable. Thank you to each one of you."
Tried my best to complete Angry Birds dude, got up to world 8 but with all the updates their are now 17 worlds !! with 21 levels on each world !!
Miss you big guy
RIP Owen .. gone but never forgotten

Dear Girlfriend,
I’m so sorry I missed our date today. I know, I know, but it’s been a strange diary, even by my standards. I was on my way to see you, trying to mind my own business, when a tiny Sumo wrestler approached me and asked for my help. Of course, he actually meant he wanted my father’s help. I’m nothing to these people – nothing! I do all the work, all the rolling, yet it’s my father who gets the praise, the fans, the glory. I don’t know how much longer I can stand it.
But my father forced me into helping him again. He made me roll this Sumo wrestler around the town picking up food that had been left lying around. I got hit by a train several times because chicken legs had been left on the railway line, but I’m okay. Just a bit sore. This guy ate and ate. He even ate some children I ran into by mistake. Oh God, darling, I’m a murderer! I don’t want to do this! I don’t want to live this life! I want to be good! I want to paint! Maybe teach! Not this endless rolling, rolling, rolling. I’m a thief and a killer!
My father had only given me five minutes to get this Sumo guy up to size and by that time I’d failed. Everything went black and my father appeared above me, terrifying to behold. And then the laser bolts shot from his eyes, something I’ve seen before. He was so mad at me! I ran, trying to evade his terrible discipline, but some of the bolts hit. It was burning agony like I’ve never felt. My poor raw hide! He hit just the spots left raw by the train hits. So I tried again and again I failed him and his rage was no less brutal.
And again I tried and this time I realised I had to take the Sumo wrestler to his match before the five minutes was up. He beat his opponent and my father was all sweetness and light and let me go. I ran all the way to the cinema, but by the time I got there, you’d gone. I’m really sorry.
I know we’ve talked about this, how I should run away, let one of cousins take over my duties, that the way my father treats me is wrong. But I can’t help going back. He’s my father, and he’s King of the Cosmos and I’d never be able to hide. I love you, but like it or not, this is my life. I hope you can accept that. I’ve learned to, in time I’m sure you will, too.
Maybe you should come round for dinner one day, so I can introduce you? Please, reply soon. I miss you.
Your Love,
The Prince

Space Channel 5 - Level 1 Failure
In memory of Owen, I plugged up the Sega Dreamcast & purchased Space Channel 5 from ebay. It is not a game I had in my collection, dancing & music games are non existent. You play Ulala a news reporter who has to pull off dance moves to save humans whilst blasting aliens. It is a repetition game in that the aliens will do the moves first & then it's your turn to do the moves. Obviously timing & remembering the moves is all there is to the game. Owen had great difficulty playing this game and wrote on his blog 22/04/2006 that he would try again in 5 years time. Sadly Owen is no longer with us, so it was down to his friends (UGVM, RLLMUK, BETEO & others) to attempt this on his behalf.
The first level has a viewing figure of 15% to pass it, on my first attempt I really messed up the timing & got a dreadfully low score. My boys then had a turn and managed to do better than me with Abbas getting 10%, another attempt by me had me only managing 12%
Owen it is not just you I hated playing the game I was sure I was pressing the buttons on time but it would not register, I found it very frustrating.
I'll try again next year

22 April 2011: Space Channel 5 day
Copy & Pasted from Tim on UGVM
On 22 April 2006, Owen wrote the following on his blog, about Space
Channel 5:
> Thought I’d try this again. I’ve had an extra five or six years of video game practice since I last tried it, after all.
>
> But, no, I still can’t get past level one. I normally end with a viewing figure of 13% and less than 15% means cancellation.
>
> I don’t think I’ll ever see level two, but maybe I’ll try again in another five years.
>
> It’s ridiculously hard and it’s made even more annoying by the fact that everyone else on earth seems to think it’s stupidly easy. Bah.
It is stupidly easy, but Owen didn't get to try again five years later.
Instead, I propose that we do.
So, get a copy of Space Channel 5. If you can't find a copy of the
original game, try the sequel. On 22 April, play it and try to get past
level 1. Come on to ugvm and post about it.

So I will be dusting off my dreamcast & crossing one game off my list of "games not played" for Owen

Owen Allaway (13th July 1973 - 13th October 2010)
It was a difficult decision, do I want to attend a service that I feel I may be intruding on? Having not met Owen in person should I really attend? How would I feel going to an English funeral? All of these questions were answered by another more defining question. Do I miss Owen? Yes, everyday, I miss his knowledge, humour, kindness & above all his friendship.
It was a nice service & I sat or stood listening to the memories/hymns thinking of Owen.
He studied at Oxford !! What?? Oh man !! I did not know that :(
His love for Star Wars & Doctor Who were mentioned, John Dow's blog post LINK was mentioned and had me choked up
His childhood memories from clutching a dalek toy as a page boy to playing Sorcerer's Cave
But above all he was a loving son, big brother, husband & friend to many.
Going out from the church hall you are given the chance to say your condolences to his family. Thom calling me by my name made me relieved that I was not intruding (thanks) & a big hug for Patience lifted the sadness for a brief moment.
Next to the church hall, refreshments were laid on but more importantly you got a chance to see photos of Owen growing up. A page boy clutching a dalek toy to his ZX-81 birthday cake. His time at Corpus Christi in Oxford to wedding photo's
This was the first time I had met some of the UGVM group members & the fact Owen had studied in Oxford made me sad that we did not get together before.
We then went to the local pub to have some drinks in his honour.. to Owen !!

Time to Reflect
It's been a sad week with the passing of Owen, a week to sit back and reflect on who I am & what I should be?
It is a time to remember the passing of a friend & how much I value my online friends. It seemed only fitting that I should play Mirrors Edge on iOS a game Owen enjoyed.
The UGVM Words with Friends tournament I feel should still be played in his memory, it is what he would have wanted I feel. But I will respect the opinions of the fellow players if they feel we should end the tournament.
Playing video games just seems so pointless to the loss of Owen but by playing the games he enjoyed it reminds me of him. In this way I will remember him.
Now to go and read his blog for his views on Sonic 4

Goodbye to a friend
My writing skills & grammar are not as good as the other blogs you may read but this is my attempt of saying goodbye to a friend.
I have know Owen Allaway (thatrevchap) for the best part of 10 years now, posting via usenet to uk.games.video groups & lately via twitter his passion for gaming, his kindness to others & his love for the Hat. It was because of Owen that I got an iOS device, his knowledge I valued and trusted on what game to download. It was because of the iOS device that I got to experience playing with Owen on Carcassonne & Words with Friends. He loved a good challenge & I remember the fun banter when playing.
His last tweet read "Oh fucking hell. Just needed two minutes to get my breath back after walking up the fucking stairs. This is really bloody annoying" and then a day later he was gone. Owen Allaway's time on this earth had come to an end.
Only a day earlier I was joking with him "@thatrevchap I blame you !! Reading your tweets has made I'll I'm sneezing and sniffing now :( "
On the morning of the 13th I sent this before going to work "@thatrevchap I'm better this morning I was asleep by 9 all dosed up, feel better now. Get well soon" .. later that day he had a heart attack and passed away :(
I do have a regret of not meeting him in person & only meeting/chatting & playing with him virtually but I am proud to say Owen I am glad I have known you & you have left a lasting impression on me.
I have copied and pasted his 100 Best Games from his blog, so pick one you have not played & give it a go for Owen. Then do the same every year on the 13th October in his honour....
Miss you big guy
